Losing Weight The Hard Way, Without Ephedrine

Life can be hard sometimes… Based on your choices 😉

Months ago I decided to take ephedrine again to overcome a kind of plateau or ratchet effect. I have lost something like 10 pounds without much effort, thanks to the higher metabolism, energy, reduced appetite, all the well-known benefits of ephedrine for weight loss.

By the way it was great to go on an EC stack again after all this time 🙂 During a few weeks I was able to do much more things with a lot of energy, both in the professional and personal life. Feeling younger 🙂

More energy for your to-do listEven my wife did notice it and suddenly my to-do list started to increase 🙂 and honestly I was happy to do it. “Go here”, “do that”, I guess most married guys with children will understand 😉 I don’t know how to measure that but to use business words, I would say that my “productivity” has doubled. I have a long history with ephedrine and caffeine so I went rapidly to the standard dosage of EC stacks and again, it was a pleasure.

But.. there is a but

I don’t remember exactly when it was, let me check in the posts… OK, it was one year ago, end of June 2014. Losing weight with an EC stack is quite easy, but keeping it off is another story. I was feeling so good, so confident that I skipped what you are supposed to do to stay at your new weight.

One last beerI had again a lot of business trips, a lot of long dinners and evenings with colleagues, drinking cocktails at the bar, after longs days sitting in meeting rooms with quite no physical activity, so again the same story. And as you can guess, with a normal appetite that had nothing to do with my body needs: eating bread at lunch, starters and desserts even if I was not so hungry, going for cookies instead of fruits during the meeting breaks…

For a while I saw no difference as I don’t use the bathroom scale very often:  for me the real test is if your jeans fit. One day it seems like your jeans have shrunk but you know it’s not the case 🙂 You feel less comfortable for instance in restaurants when you have to unbutton or it will explode 😉 Then you decide to buy other jeans, you don’t remember your size so you just try a few ones until you feel comfortable and that’s it!

So if you can relate to that: don’t buy clothes when you are gaining weight! It’s the best way to accept your failure! Stay with your current clothes and do what it takes to go back to your previous weight!

What I did next

First because you get the same health benefits as someone running four times a week and three times faster than you, as found out by this study. And second, because running below 70 percent of your maximum heart rate (MHR) is the best way to start lipolysis (burning fat by emptying adipocytes) instead of burning glycogen from your muscles.

So the logical choice would have been to do what I recommend all the time and guess what? I did run, sure, but much faster than 70 percent of my MHR. Let me explain why 😉

It happened by accident. I have the chance to work in a company which really cares for employees’ health: running at lunch time is accepted and even supported, we take part to three or four running events per year, for instance we recently had a 10K charity run.

The problem is that I had to start training regularly with young colleagues who run quite fast 😉 and to be honest I felt a bit ashamed to run so slow in order to lose weight. A kind of ego thing if you see what I mean 😉

Where I Am So Far

Running at lunchtime has many benefitsWe started with 2 sessions per week, typically on Tuesday and Thursday, for one hour at normal speed for them which is very high speed for me 😉 They all saw that I couldn’t talk much while running but I told them that I had to get back in shape and it was OK. In fact it was not OK at all.
I was so tired, my muscles were aching, I didn’t have time to recover, my joints started to hurt. Far from what I say here: You Say You Can’t Run?. I decided to react, in a way that most women will understand easily: buy some stuff! I’m just kidding: we know that women don’t need a special reason to buy stuff 😉
So I bought great running shoes (if you’re interested: Hoka One One Conquest 2 for their amazing cushion) and then something that I was expecting since a long time: a GPS running watch that has a wrist-based heart rate monitor! Which means that you don’t have to wear this %§#! chest strap anymore! I love it 🙂
This watch alone gave me the extra motivation to run faster and to track my progress with cool features such as badges, activity tracking (steps, calories, distance, etc..).

Conclusion

What I wanted to say from the beginning is that running fast is *really* hard if you have some overweight. So don’t do it. And for what benefits? To be honest I don’t see them yet. Our group is now running three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and I am always tired, my knee hurts and I didn’t lose weight yet. But I know that I have burned some fat and built some muscles: I know it because my old jeans fit again!!

The difference is that I was running at low pace at that time. I am now testing a different way and I hope that the weight loss results will be the same. But I wouldn’t recommend it: it’s really hard and you can have the same weight loss benefits without all that pain and suffering. You can get the same results in less time and efforts with ephedrine or ephedra alkaloids, as long as you don’t mess it up later with a crappy lifestyle 😉

Running at  lunchtime has many benefitsIn many companies, people join at lunch time to run together and they have full support from their employer. In fact your boss is not a philanthropist, he just cares about the bottom line: a healthy employee is happier, more effective, less ill, earning more and costing less. It is a real win-win where you will get incentives to be healthier and your company will pay now for your long term health results. Here I would like to detail all the advantages that you will get from running at lunchtime.

If you have this opportunity, congratulations! It means that your company is cool and you have a win-win here with many benefits:

  • You will make new connections at your job because running is team-building, it’s a great way to bond with co-workers.
  • Running might even help your career through networking and building professional relationships: many business points are discussed between runners on the road.
  • You will have a better image internally because of your willpower.
  • You are jogging, it means to all that you take care of yourself, you do things that other people would like to do but don’t dare, in other words you’re a winner 🙂
  • Important benefit: running at lunchtime is saving private time. It might even take a bit longer than the lunch hour, in that case you are supposed to find a compensation, for instance staying a bit longer. In fact, considering all previous points about your new image you will see that you have the sympathy of all people here and after a while, you will see that running a bit more is acceptable. Don’t get me wrong: I am not saying that you should steal time at work to run, I just say that jogging at lunchtime is saving personal time without cheating with your company. Remember that your employer is allowing it and even promoting it. All parties find a benefit as you can see in all objectivity in this list.
  • As a result, you will transfer private time to the working day: during your lunch hour you are stuck at work anyway, so why not using this hour for your health instead of exercising after work. It is very useful to all here, but first to women: let’s be honest, we all know who is taking the big part at home and who has a “double day”.
  • You will also train on a regular basis because everything is planned in advance, you have to prepare your clothes the day before or in the morning, so when it’s lunchtime and colleagues begin to gather, you don’t hesitate and you just do it. In other words, incorporating your running into your daily routine will markedly improve the regularity of your exercising.
  • Your human resources department and your employer are cool because they promote health and allow you to run at work, be fair in return, ask the marketing guys to give you corporate T-shirts to promote your company outside 😉
  • During your jogging you can brainstorm new ideas or even have a kind of meeting on the run, rather than in a boring conference room.
  • All lunchtime runners will tell you that jogging is a good way to break up the day, to lower stress and to get re-energized instead of that afternoon slump.

If you are just beginning, run with beginners and pick up our first exercising program here. Ephedrine for Sale through Prescription only?

Are sales of Ephedrine legal?You may have seen from my previous articles that ephedrine was frequently mentioned in the mainstream media these last days, due to recent bills which will further restrict the sale of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine for asthma, cold and allergy treatments in several US states.

Ephedrine has never been so famous

Newspapers, magazines, even TV news… many media are currently publishing about ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, which have never been so famous since the FDA ban. This special attention is coming from the conjunction of two factors:

  • First the exceptional allergy season this year, which started earlier than usual and will probably end later, from February to June. The peak of the allergy season is still to come but people already suffered a lot and many say that they can’t get by without ephedrine…
  • … Neither can people who cook meth! This is the reason why several Houses of Representatives have just approved bills in order to control the sale of ephedrine through real-time tracking NPLEX (National Precursor Log Exchange) or by declaring ephedrine and pseudoephedrine as prescription drugs; but as you can guess, the last option, if chosen, would be very unpopular.

Sales of ephedrine pose a dilemma for US politicians

In fact, US politicians in charge of this problem are facing a real dilemma, as they are caught between the need to control ephedrine used as precursor of methamphetamine, and the fact that people would definitely not appreciate to consult their doctor for asthma, cold, flu or allergy, when they were used to buy their cheap treatments based on ephedrine over the counter in convenience stores or in worst cases, behind the counter in pharmacies.

This last argument is very strong in the view of politicians: in the current context of debate about health-care reform, it would appear inadequate to adopt the “Ephedrine Rx measure” and this probably should influence the choice of politician representatives in favor of the NPLEX tracking system. But laws are not voted yet, and law enforcement agents are currently doing their best efforts to push the option of ephedrine as prescription-only drug: cops believe that NPLEX doesn’t work, they are convinced that a tracking system would not stop the development of meth labs – at least based on their own experience in most states where the NPLEX tracking system is already in place.

So the dilemma remains, between new laws which would place an excessive burden on law-abiding citizens due to a minority of drugs addicts, or new laws which would not prevent meth cooks to get their meth precursors in convenience stores or pharmacies, for instance if they use enough smurfers paid a few dollars to purchase ephedrine under the monthly limit.

Canteen queue as metaphor of bills about sales of ephedrineIt would not be the first time that rules, laws or procedures have to be put in place and obeyed by all just because a minority of persons is causing a problem. This reminds me of a funny case, of course out of proportion with regards to state bills, but quite representative anyway. Let me tell you this short story.

Punish all for one

It was during my first job, quite a long time ago now. We were usually having lunch at the company canteen, and one day the canteen manager heard that somebody was hiding food under napkins on his tray before going to the checkout! This turned into a kind of spy movie when the manager tried to catch the thief in the act, but no way 🙂 An easy way to stop him would have been to control his tray at the checkout, but maybe that was considered as too easy? Anyway, instead of that, the canteen manager came up with a smart idea that I consider as a perfect illustration of a stupid law: he decided that napkins were the cause of this problem because they were used to hide food! Hence his decision to put all napkins behind the checkout, only accessible after payment… As a consequence all people had then to hold their tray with one hand while trying to grab napkins, and as you can guess, many meals ended on the floor… The canteen staff had then to clean up the mess several times per day, thus delay, anger etc. This procedure had been decided and imposed upon all people in order to solve a problem caused by one person!

In the case of ephedrine, you see the parallel of course: the current bills will probably force law-abiding people with asthma, flu or allergy to lose time and money to get their medicine because of a minority of drug addicts, who will always find a way around to cook meth.
So goes life…
